NEET reservation criteria 2021

reflects the percentage of seats that are reserved for the scheduled castes(SC), scheduled tribes (ST), other backward castes (OBC), economically weaker section (EWS) and for candidates with physical disabilities (PwD) for admission to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses through NEET 2021

Candidates who will qualify the entrance test will be invited to participate in the NEET 2021 counselling process where the admission is taken on the basis of NEET 2021 reservation criteria. The reservation criteria of NEET 2021 is applicable on the 15% seats offered in All India Quota. For the 85% state quota seats, each state has its own NEET reservation criteria 2021 which are applicable at the time of state counselling.

In addition to that, all NEET seats offered in central/deemed Universities and private colleges are also under the purview of NEET 2021 reservation criteria. To bring the disadvantaged section of the society at a level playing field, the NEET reservation criteria has been brought in effect.

NEET 2020 Reservation Highlights

As per the reservation criteria, in the Central Universities and institutions, seats will be reserved for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD candidates. The percentage of seats reserved for different categories is as follows

TN Government approves 7.5% Quota to State Government Schools

As per the latest reports, 7.5% quota to government school students in the TN state Medical colleges after qualifying NEET has been approved by Tamil Nadu Cabinet. This 7.5% quota will be included within the existing reservation that means it will be a Quota within Quota.

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had said that the state government will work to provide for reservation to students from the government who will clear NEET.
  • The decision has been taken because in TN sate it has been seen that the number of candidates admitted to the MBBS programs from government schools is declining every year.
  • However, the reservation will be provided to students who did their schooling (Classes 6 to 12) in a government school of Tamil Nadu.

NEET 2020 EWS Quota Details

This move came after the 124th Amendment Bill in the Constitution of India, which was passed in the January session of the Parliament. As per this, 10% reservation in jobs and education shall be granted to the EWS candidates belonging to the General quota candidates.

Who falls under the EWS category?

Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs and whose family has a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh are only identified as EWS for benefit of reservation. The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.

  • Candidates whose families own 5 acres of agricultural land and above.
  • Candidates who owe a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. and above
  • Candidates whose parents possess a residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities.
  • Candidates whose parents own a residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.

Authorities which can issue an 'Income and Asset Certificate'

Following is the list of the competent authorities who can issue an Income and Asset Certificate:

  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional' Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate! Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate
  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • Sub-Divisional Officer or the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides

NEET 2020 Reservation for PwD Candidates

  • 5% of the seats under AIQ are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidates.
  • In case the seats remain vacant due to unavailability of candidates, the seats would be included in the Annual Sanctioned Seats for the respective category.
  • Eligible candidates will be required to produce Disability Certificate from one of the Disability Assessment Boards prior to their scheduled date of counselling.
  • Candidates may refer to the colleges mentioned below to produce the disability certificate:
  1. Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Delhi
  2. All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mumbai
  3. Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, Kolkata.
  4. Madras Medical College, Chennai

Documents Required for Claiming Reservation

All the candidates claiming reservation of seats under various reserved categories should produce the relevant documents stipulated by NTA to validate their claim for seat reservation failing which, they may be debarred from counselling and seat allotment process.
