Most Anticipated Questions for JEE Main Mathematics

Q1. The value of (21C1−10C1) + (21C2−10C2) − (21C3−10C3) +(21C4−10C4) + ⋯ + (21C10−10C10) is

(A) 220 − 210                    (B) 221 − 211

(C) 221 − 210                     (D) 220 − 29

Explanation : (A)

(21C1+21C2 + 21C3 − 21C4 + ⋯ + 21C10) − (10C1 + 10C2 + 10C3 + ⋯ + 10C10) =12221 − 2 − 210 − 1 = 220 − 2 − 210 − 1 = 220 − 210

Q2. Matrix A such that A2= 2A –I, where I is the identity matrix, Then for n≥2, Anis equal to?

(A) 2n;1A − n − 1 I      (B) 2n;1A − I

(C) nA − n − 1 I           (D) nA − I

Explanation : (C)

Given, A2 = 2A − I

Now, A3 = A(A2

= A(2A − I)

= 2A2 − A

= 2 2A − I − A = 3A − 2I

A4 = A(A3

= A(3A − 2I)

= 3A2 − 2A

= 3 2A − I − 2A = 4A − 3I

Following this, we can say An = nA − n − I I.

Chapter Name : MATRICES Topic Name : TYPES AND ALGEBRA OF MATRICES,TRANSPOSE AND SPECIAL  TYPES OF MATRICES (APPLICATION)

Q3. If the straight line x – 2y + 1 = 0 intersects the circle x2 + y2 = 25 in points P and Q then the  coordinates of the point of intersection tangents drawn at P and Q to the circle x2 + y2 = 25 are?

(A) (25,50)                            (B) (-25,-50)

(C) (-25,50)                           (D) (25,-50)

Explanation : (C)

Let R(h,k) be the point of intersection of tangents drawn at P and Q to the given circle. Then, PQ is the chord of contact of tangents drawn from R to x2 + y2 = 25. So its equation is hx + ky – 25 = 0 …..(i)

It is given that the equation of PQ is

x – 2y + 1 = 0 …..(ii)

Since (i) and (ii) represent the same line

h1=k;2= −25

⇒ h = – 25,k = 50

Hence, the required point is (-25,50)
